This is a Starr Labs D5 CPU Card. This is the “motherboard” or main “brain” of many Starr Labs MIDI controller instruments as well as the Kurzweil Event Station. These cards are intended for hobbyists and professionals with some degree of electronic assembly experience who wish to construct their own custom instrument.

Included with the D5 CPU Card is a display programmer (LCD screen with buttons) that can be mounted somewhere on a flat surface of the custom instrument and used to set up and program whatever buttons, knobs and other sensors you might have connected to it.

One EPROM is included with each CPU card. The different EPROMs are suited for different combinations of sensors/triggers as follows:

Event Station – Software from the Kurzweil Event Station, good for drum pads and momentary switches

Z6 (Pads) – Accepts Starr Labs fingerboard assembly and M2 Trigger Pads (along with Volume, Modulation, Sustain, etc)

Z6S (Strings) – Accepts Starr Labs fingerboard assembly and String Trigger Kit (along with Volume, Modulation, Sustain, etc)

Z6S MK3 (Strings and Pads) – Accepts Starr Labs fingerboard assembly, M2 Trigger Pads and String Trigger Kit (along with Volume, Modulation, Sustain, etc)

Z6SP (Strings and 6-Pots) – Accepts Starr Labs fingerboard assembly, String Trigger Kit, and 6-Potentiometer Harness (along with Volume, Modulation, Sustain, etc)

Please note that for many versions of the EPROM/system software, the Joystick header on this card need a joystick (sold separately) to be installed, or simply add resistors in place of a joystick, or there will be erratic behavior in the menu system as it’s expecting a joystick (2 potentiometers) input.
